Making the most of a tight, square section in this suburb of Napier, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom home delivers smart spatial planning and striking contemporary style. The brief called for a private backyard that still captured the expansive western views to the ranges — a balance achieved through a considered T-shaped layout. This form creates natural separation between living and sleeping zones, opens the home to the landscape and shelters the outdoor living area where the owners can relax — protected from the Hawke’s Bay sun. A key challenge was to ensure the home felt welcoming and did not compromise interior space.

To achieve this, an understated yet distinctive covered entry was introduced, establishing a clear sense of arrival and to give the façade a modern architectural presence unlike anything else in the neighbourhood. Inside, the entry flows directly into the kitchen and main living spaces, highlighting openness and connection, while maximising every millimetre of the compact 167sqm footprint. Off-street parking was integrated into the design, further enhancing practicality without interrupting the home’s clean lines.
