Heartfelt motivations for local Mother’s Day Fun Run

For the eighth year running Jennian Homes is shining the light on heart health as they encourage all ages to take part in the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk.

On Mother’s Day, runners and walkers will set off at 9am from locations all over the country, including (insert regional location) as part of New Zealand’s biggest Mother’s Day event.

Each run will start with a sea of participants wearing iconic New Zealand Artist Dick Frizzell designed t-shirts, received by every registrant as part of their registration pack. 

The events are organised by local franchisees who are very much part of their communities, bringing together the community and providing the opportunity of many to honour and run for those they know who have been impacted by heart health.

As part of their commitment to the Heart Foundation Jennian capture stories and connect the Heart Foundation to walkers/runners who are participants

 in honour of their loved ones. The stories highlight that number of people directly and indirectly impacted by the conditions related to heart health, age and gender does not discriminate. 186,000 New Zealanders alone are living with Heart Disease.

As registrations for this year’s event pour in, heartfelt motivations to partake have been at the forefront. Mothers with heart disease, children born with heart conditions, family members on transplant wait lists.

Young and old, far and wide the stories flow of family members who have passed or are living with conditions that the Heart Foundation work tirelessly to provide support and research to prevent to improve quality of life.

Jennian Homes has been a loyal supporter of the Heart Foundation for almost a decade. Since the Heart Foundation began, it has invested more than $70 million into heart research and specialist cardiac training. Jennian Homes has made a significant contribution to this.

Kiwi athletes put their heart into Mother’s Day

The glow from the Kiwi Commonwealth Games efforts is set to shine on Mother’s Day as part of a star-studded line-up of Kiwi athletes putting their best foot forward at the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run and Walk.

Black Sticks’ golden girls Sally Rutherford and Pippa Hayward, fresh from clinching gold in style with a 4-1 win over Australia, and silver medal winning track cyclist Olivia Podmore are part of an inspirational drawcard of 50 athletes assisting with the warm-up and 5km event.

Sunday 13 May will see more than 10,000 participants take part in New Zealand’s largest Mother’s Day event across 33 locations nationwide, from Paihia to Invercargill, in efforts to improve the heart health of New Zealand women.

Now in its seventh year, Jennian Homes’ annual event supports the Heart Foundation’s ‘Heart Foundation for Women’ campaign. 2018 also marks the Heart Foundation’s 50th anniversary year.

Heart disease is the number-one cause of death for women in New Zealand, claiming the lives of more than 50 women each week, and more than 3000 each year.

Rutherford will be attending the Ellerslie event and Hayward in Pukekohe while Podmore, who claimed silver as part of the women’s team sprint, is in Hamilton.

Other past or present Olympic and Commonwealth Games athletes include, sailor Alex Maloney (Auckland’s Long Bay), canoeist Luuka Jones (Tauranga), shooter Natalie Rooney (Timaru) and netballer Shannon Francois (Dunedin).

This chance to meet these athletes arises from Jennian Homes’ partnership with the New Zealand Olympic Committee to help Kiwi athletes ‘Earn The Fern’ at the recent Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and at Rio 2016.

Mother’s Day Fun Run Returns

Tickets are now on sale for New Zealand’s largest Mother’s Day event, the Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk, in support of women’s heart health.

More than 13,000 people are expected to take part in the 5km event, which will be held on May 13th in 32 locations across the country from Paihia to Invercargill.

With 2017 seeing a record number of women embrace the chance to have fun, get active and support a worthy cause, this year will see events at 10 new locations, including Cambridge, Taupo, Napier, Blenheim and Wanaka.

Now in its seventh year, the annual event supports ‘Heart Foundation for Women’, in what is the Heart Foundation’s 50th anniversary year.

Each location will have up to three Commonwealth Games athletes assisting with the warm-up, and all participants will receive an official event t-shirt designed by iconic New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell that features the word ‘fifty’ in the shape of a love heart to acknowledge the anniversary year.

“Heart disease is the single biggest killer of women in New Zealand, claiming the lives of more than 55 women each week,” says Heart Foundation Medical Director Gerry Devlin.

“The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk is a great way to raise much-needed funds and awareness for heart health and encourage women to look after themselves by being fit and active.

“Jennian Homes has been a loyal supporter of the Heart Foundation for almost a decade. Since the Heart Foundation began, it has invested more than $65 million into heart research and specialist cardiac training. Jennian Homes has made a significant contribution to this.

“We are excited to see so many new locations introduced to the event this year, which should see the biggest turnout ever. It’s certainly a fitting way to celebrate the Heart Foundation’s 50th anniversary and this most important relationship.”

Grand Designs South of Auckland

The development of a new community on former Wesley College land near Pukekohe moved a step closer today with the announcement of 12 build partners.

In addition, the developers, Grafton Downs Ltd, along with the Wesley College Trust Board have announced that the development will be named Paerata Rise.

As well as acknowledging the existing Paerata community, the name is a nod to the meaning of Paerata in te reo, that is, ‘horizon of the rata’.

“It was important to those involved in the development that the name was in keeping with, as well as inclusive of, the area’s heritage,” says Grafton Downs Ltd. Executive Director Chris Johnston.

The foundations of Paerata Rise are well underway on location, 45-minutes south of Auckland. Those involved in the development promise it will be a community with a difference.

“We will be working closely with approved build partners to create, as prescribed under the Paerata Rise design guide, a new unique place to live where homestead architecture is envisaged,” Johnston said.

“We have chosen the build partners because of the outstanding quality of their workmanship. In the interests of creating equal opportunities for builders in the community, we selected to work with large franchisee companies and small family businesses, all of whom are local,” says Shaun Millar, Grafton Downs Ltd’s sales and marketing manager.

“The builders are ecstatic about the development – our vision is something that they are behind 100 per cent.

Athletics New Zealand have  announced Jennian Homes as the naming rights sponsor of the New Zealand Track and Field Championships for 2017 and 2018, to be held at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton.

The Jennian Homes NZ Track and Field Champs, one of the countrys oldest sporting events dating back to 1889, will be held on 17-19 March, 2017, at Porritt Stadium in Hamilton and will feature many of New Zealands top athletes, from Rio Olympians like Eliza McCartney, Tom Walsh and Hamish Carson to name a few, right through to the best U18 and U20 provincial talent, all vying to win a national title, and for some, qualification for higher honours.

Mum’s The Word As Olympic Heroes Step Out For Heart Health

A silver medallist sharp shooter, a former women’s hockey captain and a runner whose sportsmanship and “Olympic spirit” captured international attention, will headline this year’s Jennian Homes Mother’s Day Fun Run/Walk.

Tickets go on sale today for the highly anticipated event taking place in over 20 locations nationwide, with women from Paihia to Invercargill preparing to walk and run their way through Mother’s Day on May 14 – all in the name of heart health. Into its sixth year, the New Zealand-wide event is part of an initiative run by Jennian Homes to support the Heart Foundation’s ‘Heart Foundation For Women’ campaign, which aims to improve the heart health of New Zealand women.

While 2016 was the annual fun run/walk’s largest to date, with more than 7000 mums, daughters or sisters participating, this year is predicted to be even bigger with a trio of Olympic athletes fronting the event, including Natalie Rooney (shooting), Kayla Whitelock (hockey), and Nikki Hamblin (middle distance runner). Heart disease is the number-one cause of death for women in New Zealand, claiming the lives of more than 50 women each week. Therefore, as a proud supporter, Jennian Homes is committed to working with the Heart Foundation to reduce this alarming statistic, and will be giving $20,000 to the charity to support women’s heart health as a result of the Mother’s Day events. Heart Foundation medical director Gerry Devlin says it’s a sad fact that heart disease is the number-one killer of women in New Zealand and more needs to be done to address this worrying statistic.

The franchise, based in Central Whangarei, delivered ten Christmas trees to ten needy family groups, after they were identified by the Whangarei branch of the Salvation Army.

Jody Yakas, General Manager of Jennian Homes Northland, says she and her team felt honoured to be able to spread some Christmas cheer to those who need it most. “Jennian Homes is dedicated to building communities, and as a team we really liked the idea of helping deserving families to feel a little bit brighter, at a time that can be an incredible struggle for many.

“Some of the team even got a bit emotional seeing the children waiting at the doors to collect their trees.”

Jenny of the Salvation Army Whangarei says: “Although Christmas is known as a joyful time, it can be a very tough period for many families. It is the generous donations of people and businesses, like Jennian Homes, that help alleviate some of the pain and stress at this time of year. We are very grateful to the Jennian Homes Northland team, as I’m sure are the families who received the lovely Christmas trees.”

Yakas says the experience was so worthwhile they will be looking at donating further Christmas trees next year.

Is the Investment Property market set to expand further with the updated New Zealand Reserve Bank LVR rules introducing further restrictions on ‘existing homes’, but potentially encouraging investors to ‘build new homes’?

  • The new Auckland Unitary Plan encourages more construction in Auckland’s expanded borders to manage the desperate shortage of quality new homes.
  • Net migration has now passed 68,000 migrants annually and shows no immediate signs of slowing. These immigrants will need housing.
  • A threefold increase in Britons wanting to move to NZ after the Brexit vote, and the slowing Australian Minerals Boom all point to the strong need to continue to build new houses.

What’s Your True Building Budget?

You’ve decided that you’d love to build a new home and enjoy all the benefits that come with being the first owner of a freshly built house.  Brand new fixtures and fittings, new product warranties and guarantees, low maintenance, you get the home you want and the best part of all – no one else has ever lived there!

The big question is how much will it cost? Or more importantly, how much do you have to spend?

Establishing your true budget before you embark on this exciting adventure is the most important thing you will do to avoid disappointment. As they say, dreams are free, but in reality you need to carefully analyse what you have to spend so that there are no unwelcome surprises along the way.

To begin with, establish what your total project budget is. What is the total amount you have to spend to get you crossing the threshold of a fully finished house on established grounds?  Now that you have this number written down you can calculate what you have to spend on all the elements that make up your dream property.

There are several costs that can impact the bottom line of your budget and a significant number of these happen prior to commencing the construction of your home.  It doesn’t matter what the home you’re thinking of building looks like, how big it is or who is going to build it for you there are a number of costs to consider that will then help you to establish what is left in the kitty to construct your home and do the landscaping.

This is where a relationship with an established builder becomes very important so that you can seek the best advice.  For example when looking to purchase land you need to consider what extra costs there are going to be to establish a suitable building  platform on top of what might seem like a reasonable purchase price for the section.  Some of these potentially costly factors are site costs such as excavation and retaining, covenants, local council requirements, services and location.

Once you have a clear idea of what’s needed prior to construction, put a figure on establishing and landscaping your grounds after the house is finished. Now you have a true figure left for your construction budget and your builder can work with you to get you the home you want within that budget.  Without a true construction budget you may find that you are presented with a house plan that you just can’t afford, or you might even find that you’ve sold yourself short and miss out on some of your wish list because there’s more money available than you first imagined.

Try not to get hung up on ‘square metre rates’ as these too are largely irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. House size, shape, specifications, kitchens, bathrooms and all manner of other factors will determine the cost of your home.  What you really want to know is that at the end of this exciting adventure you can move your family into the home you’ve always wanted, on time and within your true budget with no surprises.
